Container Conversion into a Life Guard Lookout

Breakdown of the Project

We were approached by the Hartlepool Borough Council with a requirement for 2no. 20ft containers to use on Seaton Carew beachfront for storage and a life guard look out station.

The ground floor 20ft storage unit was formed from a new ‘one trip’ shipping container. The container was lined internally and externally. The top floor 20ft container was formed from one of our flat-pack office containers. The unit is shipped into the country in flat-pack format with all the lining & insulation already on the inside of the steel corrugated panels. We supplied extra windows along the ends & sides to ensure the lifeguards have a clear view across the whole beachfront. We build this up in sections. One assembled this looks just like an ordinary 20ft shipping container. The unit was accessed via a secure steel personnel door.

We supplied & fitted a galvanised staircase to gain access to the first-floor container. The staircase was fitted with a secure gate at the bottom to prevent any unauthorised access.

Conversion breakdown

• Using a 20ft new ‘one trip’ shipping container with a 1no. 20ft flat pack container stacked on top.
• Modifications to the 20ft new ’one trip’ shipping container included.
  • 1000mm x 1000mm sliding window with secure shutters.
  • Internally ply lined over 50mm celotex insulation.
  • Resprayed externally in white – RAL9010.
• The 20ft flat pack container included.
  • windows with secure roller shutters. (As standard the flat pack container comes with only 2 windows but we can customise on request.)
  • The configuration was critical due to the positioning of the windows for use as a lookout.
  • Also, the personnel door needed to be the last panel along the right-hand side to match the staircase.
  • Internal electrics including.
    • strip lights.
    • double sockets.
  • An external staircase was fabricated to gain access to the upper container.
    • Including safety railings.
    • Secured barred gate.
    • Fabricated from box section with chequer plate steps.
