3no. 20ft catering and coffee shop container conversion

Breakdown of the Project

While exhibiting at the Farm Business Innovation in 2018, a trade show we have exhibited shipping containers at for multiple years. We were approached by a visitor to the show who was intrigued by the 10ft bespoke coffee shop container that we had on display.  

After discussions and showcasing other possibilities he wanted to explore the idea of a similar configuration of a catering container inside a 20ft shipping container. There were further meetings onsite to get specifications to develop the project, there were 3D visuals designed to bring the ideas to life. One the design was approved the conversion an order was placed for 2 catering containers. After visiting the depot during production, the client placed another order for a 3rd catering container for a third site.  

The first 2 units were delivered to their destinations and 3 weeks later the third unit was completed and delivered to the final location. Over all the units were fabricated and fitted out in 7 weeks from confirmation of order. 

Conversion breakdown

The 3no. catering containers followed the same specification breakdown.  

• 1no. 20ft new ‘one trip’ shipping container (20ft x 8ft x 8ft 6”). 
• The cargo doors were left in situ with a secure lockbox as they were using this as a small serving dwelling area. 
• The cargo doors were modified to include a sliding door latch safe personnel exit. 
• 1no. 2100mm x 1100mm serving hatch with gas struts was added to the far end of the right 20ft side. 
• 1no. 2100mm x 1100mm serving hatch with gas struts was installed in the rear 8ft panel. 
• Internally the unit was lined with 9mm plywood over 50mm rockwool insulation. 
• Pallet board style cladding to the interior above benches and throughout the 5ft dwell area. 
• Vinyl flooring throughout. 
• Scaffold board style shelving in dwell area. 
• Kitchen style bench tops, supported on tubular legs 600mm wide x 900mm high are 3 sides spanning 14ft down 20ft sides. 
• Surface mounted electrical installation with 1no. strip light, 4no. double sockets, 1no. wall heater. 
• Gas installation with secure gas locker and 3no. quick release fittings. 
• Resprayed externally in RAL7016 chosen by the customer.
